Happy World Sight Day 2017!

Our Children’s Vision is a call to action – to come together to ensure that effective, inclusive, sustainable eye health initiatives are available to children around the world, regardless of their economic status or geographical location.

Optometry Giving Sight is proud to be a global partner in Our Children’s Vision. We believe that Our Children’s Vision will ensure every child, everywhere has access to the eye care they need. The best part is you can help.

What does a child see for their future? Moonwalks, sold out stadiums, the presidency? The most striking part of any child’s dream is their ambition. But the key to all those ambitions is a good education, and getting a good education is difficult without good eyesight.

Every seven year old, when going to school, should take along a certificate from their optometrist saying, ‘I’ve had my eyes examined, I’m ok I can see.

Children should not be limited by a preventable or treatable vision impairment.

Our initial target is to provide services to 50 million children by 2020. It is an achievable goal and, by supporting the development of local people and utilising their expertise, we will reach it. We can achieve sustainability and efficiency by operating inside established systems with people who know and understand current processes.

Research is vital to driving awareness and achieving change. We are committed to understanding and communicating the level of need for eye care services and the impact that the increasing prevalence of myopia is having on our children. The knowledge gained will demonstrate the missing link in complete health provision for children.

Von Arkel - Swiss made

A LEGACY OF PASSION

In the 18th Century, in the heart of Switzerland’s “Vallée de Joux” in the Jura region, the art of watchmaking was taking on a new dimension, driven by passionate artisans. Extreme precision, attention to detail, immeasurable quality, and a constant culture of innovation – together, all of these elements gave rise to the art of fine watchmaking.

Over two centuries later, the Von Arkel brand has inherited from this exceptional tradition, bringing it – for the first time ever – to the world of luxury eyewear. With their revolutionary hinge, the Von Arkel frames combine exclusive and elegant style with unrivalled technicality drawn directly from watchmaking talent. And now, you too can enjoy this savoir-faire.

Behind their pure and timeless design, Von Arkel frames are a veritable technological marvel. Revolutionary in the eyewear universe, the patented hinge has been entirely designed and developed in the very cradle of fine watchmaking, the “Vallée de Joux”. It is the brain-child of Dubois-Dépraz company and the result of over two years’ research and development.

The hinge is available in two calibres: 8.0 and 9.0.

True masterpieces created with absolute virtuosity.

We are very pleased to stock this fantastic Swiss range!

Bulimba Festival 2017

Are you ready for Queensland’s largest suburban street party? The Bulimba Festival returns to bring an offering that’s bigger and better than ever before.

The Bulimba Festival returns this year as an all-in celebration of the vibrant community that makes Bulimba such a rad place to be. Food, fun and entertainment are all on offer for a huge day out that’s suitable for young and old. The entertainment situation this year is next level, with the likes of Jebediah, Maddy Jayne, Electrik Lemonade, Bugs, Machine Age and more spread across two stages to keep the crowds happy.

It wouldn’t be a festival without food, glorious food, right? This is all taken care of, with a great selection of food trucks and market stalls setting up shop for the festival. This year also sees the return of the Memorial Park Sideshow with rides, games and entertainment to keep the kids occupied.

Remember if you plan on coming into the practice on the day that parking may be a bit more difficult than usual.

Clarity First Depot for Contact Lens Packaging Recycling in Queensland

Bausch + Lomb Australia has partnered with TerraCycle to facilitate recycling of contact lenses and blister packs for the first time. Any brand of used contact lenses and blister packs can be recycled for free.
“Bausch + Lomb is incredibly conscious of its environmental impact, and wants to offer its customers a better solution for their used products,” said Geraldine Maraboli, Bausch + Lomb Australia. “We are calling on anyone who wears contact lenses to sign up to the programme and help divert their lenses and blister packs from landfill.”
You are able to drop your Contact Lens packaging into Clarity Optometrists Bulimba! Or you can log on to the Terracycle website and send them directly to them. Once signed up, wearers collect their used contact lenses and blister packs in any box, download a prepaid shipping label from the TerraCycle website, attach it to the box, and drop off their package at any Australia Post outlet. The used contact lenses and blister packs collected by TerraCycle will be recycled into sustainable products and materials.
The recycling programme also gives back by making a AU$1 donation to Optometry Giving Sight for every kilogram of accepted waste sent through the programme.

Vision for Life.
