Welcome John Mountford Optometrist

We are very excited to announce that from July 1st 2018, we will be looking after the former patients of John Mountford's Queen Street practice. John is closing the doors on the T and G building practice after 42 years and stepping back from full time practice.

A message from John:

"For the past 40 years we have been honoured to serve the eyecare needs of so many patients at the John Mountford Optometrist Practice in Queen Street, Brisbane.

This notice is to let you know that on June 30th we will be closing the doors in Queen Street.

I will be retiring from full time practice at this time. We are relocating the day to day Optometry practice to Clarity Optometrists at Bulimba and I will be joining Clarity Optometrists on a part time basis going forward. They will hold your health records for your ongoing care.

As it is my intention to step away from full time practice, I would like to ensure that you continue to receive the best of care and to introduce you to the great team at Clarity Optometrists led by Dr Ann Webber.

It has been a pleasure being part of the lives of so many patients over the years and I feel confident in introducing you to Ann, who I have known for more than 30 years, and her team. You should feel comfortable in contacting Ann and her team for any of your ongoing needs.

Clarity is a full scope Optometry practice that has been serving the people of Brisbane since 1991 and their Optometrists are very experienced in contact lens prescribing, fitting and care including the fitting of complex children’s contact lenses for the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital."

What is Orthokeratology?

Orthokeratology (ortho-k) is the fitting of specially designed gas permeable contact lenses that you wear overnight. While you are asleep, the lenses gently reshape the front surface of your eye (cornea) so you can see clearly the following day after you remove the lenses when you wake up. Ortho-k lenses are prescribed for two purposes:
To correct refractive errors (primarily nearsightedness, but also astigmatism and hyperopia). In some cases, ortho-k also is used to correct presbyopia.
To slow the progression of childhood myopia.

Back to School is Approaching...make sure to book that Eye Test!

Hope that everyone has had a great Christmas!
Only two weeks until our kids head back to school. Remember to make sure that they have had their comprehensive eye exam before then. Eye exams for children are extremely important, as early identification of a child's vision problem can be crucial and children often are more responsive to treatment when problems are diagnosed early.
For school-aged children it is recommended that they should have an eye exam every two years or as directed by their Optometrist.

Bulimba Festival 2017

Are you ready for Queensland’s largest suburban street party? The Bulimba Festival returns to bring an offering that’s bigger and better than ever before.

The Bulimba Festival returns this year as an all-in celebration of the vibrant community that makes Bulimba such a rad place to be. Food, fun and entertainment are all on offer for a huge day out that’s suitable for young and old. The entertainment situation this year is next level, with the likes of Jebediah, Maddy Jayne, Electrik Lemonade, Bugs, Machine Age and more spread across two stages to keep the crowds happy.

It wouldn’t be a festival without food, glorious food, right? This is all taken care of, with a great selection of food trucks and market stalls setting up shop for the festival. This year also sees the return of the Memorial Park Sideshow with rides, games and entertainment to keep the kids occupied.

Remember if you plan on coming into the practice on the day that parking may be a bit more difficult than usual.
